City of Refuge and more

So last week was pretty amazing. We had our Community Ministry Day for the 3rd semester in a row and it was another great success. Attendance by students and faculty was not the best it has ever been, but we still had an amazing turn out and got a lot of work done. I was with a group that got to walk a mile and a half through the ghetto, picking up trash all along the way. Our leader had told us that it should only take about 30 minutes to walk to this place while picking up trash, but knowing ACCers, we are really faithful to picking up trash, after 30 minutes had passed we, were still far away so we had to end up throwing our bags into the back of his truck and just walking straight there because we still had a lot to do there. When we got to the apartment complex, we split up into groups and went door to door, letting the people know about the City of Refuge and inviting them to the cookout we were going to put on for them at the complex later on that day. I was in a group with Vice President Huxford and Michael Gunnin from the business office, it was really fun. After we finished going door to door, we set up the cookout in the little picnic area they had at the complex. At first it looked like no one would really show up, but then we had a good turn out and gave away a lot of free hot dogs. The community was very appreciative.
Community ministry day is always a fun and great experience which not only benefits City of Refuge and the Simpson street community, but also the community at ACC. That day had helped us to get into the mode for the Global Missions Conference that is going on on campus this weekend. We are really getting excited about all of the students from other campuses, activities, and speakers we having going on. It is going to be really busy and really fun.
School is going good for me now. This week is a little busy and I have 30 verses to memorize for an Acts test this Friday. Sunday nights is going good and we are just having a blast in our dorm. With the Braves starting up now, I am sure we will be at a game each week. Over half of the school went to the season opener. GO BRAVES!

Hot dogs, missions, and celebrations!

There are a lot of things that can become stale about school. The usual stuff such as assignments, tests, early mornings, and not to mention the cafeteria food. However, I find it refreshing that ACC is always doing something. Whether it's Spring Ministry Day or gathering donations for tornado relief, it's pretty great that I never have to question if we are concerned with the lives of our fellow humankind.
This Spring Ministry Day I spent a few hours raking rocks and soil in preparation for planting seed. Kinda figurative don't you think? I also helped set up and serve at a barbecue station at the end of the road. I believe we served close to 300 hot dogs, chips, and drinks. It's funny to me that churches are attempting to draw people in with concerts and light shows, yet something as simple as a hot meal will work.
Yes, God can work in mysterious ways, even sometimes through mysterious meat.

Some other updates include the Global Missions Conference coming up this weekend. We're having some great speakers come who will be hosting workshops on a variety of topics related to missions. I look forward to sitting in on the workshop discussing poverty/AIDS/HIV since it will help prepare me for Kenya this summer. On topic with Kenya, I have close to 1/6th of my financial support raised. I need half of it raised by mid-April and all of it by May. I should be praying right now, shouldn't I?

One more fun update... Today is Mr. Feeny's 81st birthday. He was a father figure to half of my generation. Celebrations are in order!

WOW.... such a busy week!!!

This week has been crazy! We had an awesome Sunday Nights!!! Although it was cold we had some awesome games and we got to color eyes and I haven't gotten to do that in forever it feels like! But today was fun too, we went to the City of Refuge! Although I didn't get to do the job I wanted to do but I did get to pull weeds! YAY lol I didn't really enjoy it but I was doing it for God and for the betterment of the community. I had a hard time dealing with the job while I was there because I don't like doing yard work but I prayed about the whole situation and now I have realized that God was just testing me. He wanted to make sure I was willing to do anything for him and I didn't understand that at first but I do now! So yea I'm okay with the fact that I had to pull weeds all day! :D

A Busy Time for ACCers

Hey everybody, my name is Chris Nasser! I am a sophomore seeking a Business major here at ACC. I am a Campus Life Minister in charge of dorm life here on campus, I play for the men's soccer team and I am the vice-president of the Student Government. As you can tell by everything that keeps me busy, it is really easy to get involved on our campus. We just got back from Spring Break a week ago, so now there is less than half of a semester to go before the summer. Before this semester is over we wil be having our Spring Ministry day, our Spring Formal, a Global Missions Conference on our campus in addition to everything else that already is going on here. I am actually really excited about all of these things because I like to stay busy and active.
I am really excited about the new sand volleyball court that should be completed soon and for the grant that we are working on to update our weight rooms. So can all of y'all please pray for all of these activities and for the Seniors who this is their last semester at ACC? Thanks and God bless to all of y'all!
-Chris N.-

P.S. I will try to get this picture thing figured out so I can add some for y'all next time!haha

Let the good times roll!

Hello everybody!

As it is my last sememster at ACC (sad...) I have been crazy busy with my classes and my on-campus job. I'm really excited about graduating, but at the same time I'm scared about being a grown-up. I definitely know how to be a student, but I'm not completely sure how to be a 'grown-up' yet.

I'm really excited about the Global Missions Converence that will be going on April 4th and 5th. We are going to be having awesome speakers, fun games and a campout in front of the library!

I know this is short, but I have to get back to work!

Un-lent...

I am trusting that everyone had an amazing Easter celebration. I was able to spend time with my family in South Carolina, so that made mine more meaningful.
On a similar note, I gave up Starbucks for lent this year, which near about killed me in the first few weeks. However, it got easier with time and I wonder how much money I saved in the process. It was a really good lesson for me; I feel like I am slowly learning the difference between needs and wants, in this area and many more. Additionally, last night at our Sunday nights gathering on campus, we were challenged to now take something for forty days of celebration. It is an interesting perspective that lent is about sacrifice for forty days, yet we only celebrate the resurrection for one. I'm not sure what I want to pick up for my forty days of celebration, but I love the concept. Can I call it Un-lent?
Outside of the Easter season, it is going to be a busy and fun week. The entire campus is having a Spring ministry day at City of Refuge on Thursday. We all look forward to going downtown and helping out with this amazing church and organization... and not to mention there are no classes being held! I am sure you will hear more about the activities of Spring ministry day in coming posts.
Until then...

Finally it works!

Hey there guys!
My name is Alex Pennington and I'm a freshman at ACC. This is my first post only because I have had the hardest time ever trying to get this to work! But luckily now it works and this the first of many posts for me.
So I had the most stressful week, I had a project due in Educational Foundations and it seemed to take up all my time this past week and I had two tests and I was just stressed out! My project went well and I didn't do too bad on it. I'm just very glad it's finally over. Now I get to move on to the next huge project and I get to look forward to all the "awesome" tests in the next six weeks! YAY Anyways that was my week nothing great happened but hopefully in the next few something more exciting will happen and I wont be a boring blogger!!!

'Till next time!!

Back from Spring Break

So, I realized that I forgot to introduce myself in my last Blog. I am Anthony, a Sophomore at ACC. I am from Carrollton, GA and I am a Biblical Studies and Preaching Dual Major. I am involved with a lot of different activities on at the ACC campus. I play Soccer, lead the Sunday Nights service, I am a Campus Life Minister and I just like to have fun. When I graduate, I plan on doing something in the ministry whether it be with you ministry or camp ministry. I would absolutely love to start a summer camp someplace, maybe even in Alaska. I just do not know, I will just have to see what happens. In the Fall of '08 I will be traveling to Birmingham, England to be an Exchange Student with Globalscope. I am going to miss being at ACC for a semester but I am really excited about the ministry opportunities overseas.

This past week was our Spring Break and we had a lot of fun. A group of 12 of us got together and rented a condo down on New Smyrna Beach, just south of Daytona. It was nice having a week off and just getting to hang out with friends. We did everything from hanging out on the beach, watching the Space Shuttle launch at 2:28 in the morning, to going to a Chick-fil-a grand opening even in Miami. That is another cool thing we have been involved in. Whenever we hear about a Chick-fil-a grand opening anywhere around us, we get a group of people together to go. If you are within the 1st 100 people to be in line 24 hours before it open, you receive 52 #1 combo coupons. You have to stay their all night and you are not allowed to leave the parking lot. It is really a lot of fun and there it something to do the whole time you are there. When we went to the one in Miami, two of my friends got to dress up as the Chick-fil-a cows, it was really funny. We successfully went to 2 openings in 2 weeks. It is worth every second of sleep you do not get.

Now we are back to school and back to working and planning more things to do. Sometimes life just seems so busy but I cannot complain, I am having the time of my life.

School choices.

Spring break came and went… however it was a wonderful and memorable week for me. I turned 21 and got engaged on the same day, very exciting! Last night after my Geography test I went out with some of my cool ACC friends and celebrated my birthday, again. Ha-ha. I would post pictures, but I procrastinate with things of that nature. Sorry. Anyways, I’m sitting here in my college budget decorated dorm, which I might add looks pretty good. Except for the clothes and school books I haven’t unpacked, yet… I have a test on Wednesday and I feel pretty confident for it. I have some library hours to put in and I also help tutor on campus. I enjoy helping people and I think this is why God has placed me in this environment and has given me the chance to keep growing in his word and will. I am not 100% sure what I want to do as a career, because of that I have changed my specialization within my major, again… lol. I have switched from literature specialization to interdisciplinary specialization, which is a mixture of history, music, philosophy and literature. I think I will be much happier in that specialization. I also have a head-cold, but I am moving through it. It will be a short week since we have Good Friday off and we will celebrate the Risen King on Sunday!

Sunburn and shots

Spring break ended about as quickly as it began, so it's back to the grind here at ACC. I'm looking at a busy week, especially since we have no classes on Good Friday. Thank you professors for unanimously decided to give me ALL of your tests this Wednesday.
Regardless, I had a great break. I was able to catch up on some projects that will be due very shortly. I read a couple of books while cruising on the lake, while managing to get scorched by the sun. I got to see a few new movies. And let's not forget the good food and free laundry aspect.
One interesting component of my week involved preparing for my summer internship. I applied to the REACH Internship program with Christian Missionary Fellowship a few months ago, and found out in January that I was accepted. Therefore, I'm going to be spending my summer in Nairobi, Kenya (May 28th-August 2nd). I'm really excited for the opportunity, and I've been keeping busy raising my support, reading assigned books, and simply preparing my heart. Over break I got five shots (Influenza, Polio, Meningitis, Yellow Fever, and Typhoid Fever)... and I'm quite amazed at the body's ability to handle all of that at once. I'm proud to say I took the shots like a fearless Samurai warrior.
I'll be sure to keep you updated on my plans for the summer and if you have some time, I'd greatly appreciate the prayer!

P.S. I didn't look quite like the girl in the picture, and even if I did, I wouldn't tell you :)

One more day!

I suppose that it would be a good idea to give myself a little introduction. My name is Bethany and I transfered to ACC last semester, which makes me a junior in the Human Relations program. It has been a wild ride coming and adjusting to ACC, especially because I'm from PA. One thing that I cannot get used to is what I refer to as Georgia's "bipolar" weather. One day it is warm and the next day you need a winter coat and scarf! Despite that, I have and continue to love being here. The southern way of life is a beautiful thing...
In more exciting news, there is ONLY one more day until spring break! The campus is buzzing with excitement and it is practically all that my fellow students have been talking about this week. The general consensus about what to do over spring break seems to involve a mixture of sleep, a home cooked meal, free laundry, and possibly a tan. I'm certainly excited about all of those things, especially since I haven't been home since Christmas break! I'm planning on spending the majority of my break in South Carolina where my parents live (they moved from PA after I left for school). I anticipate the week to be filled with sunny days and hopefully some time on Lake Greenwood.

Rest, what a beautiful Biblical concept!

An Exciting Week

This past week was really busy and fun. Last weekend 16 ACC people went to Hilton Head to GCYC to hangout with some fun high school students. We had a Nintendo Wii set up at our booth and we just had a blast all weekend. The weather was great for the beach. Then we got back to school that Sunday afternoon and that night we had a worship service around the campfire that night. Ha, it is so funny having a campfire in the middle of Atlanta but it was fun. A few friends and I all got poison oak from the wood we used for the fire, no fun at all. Wednesday in chapel was really cool too though. President Collins and Professor Mofatt did a whole interview session about sex. We actually talked about sex in chapel. They presented the issue in a very comfortable and interesting way. I think a lot of people go something out of it. On Friday was the biggie for me though, I preached my 2nd sermon ever in class on in the morning. I think it went really well except I turned a 20 minute sermon into 12 minutes because I spoke so fast. I was really nervous. That afternoon we celebrated the leap day (2/29/08) with a very preppy party (full with tea, crumpets, classical music, lawn darts, and bocce ball). Everyone dressed up very preppy like. Even Professor Huxford and some of the business office staff came down to have some fun. We have a lot of pictures on facebook from it. To finish it of, my friend Ben and I woke up and drove to REI early this morning to go to a big sale they had. We are really into caving and camping so we try to find whatever deals we can. Throw in getting in some tree climbing and just normal dorm life and we had one busy but fun week. Saturday is now my day to rest.
