Friends for a Lifetime

In every movie I would see friends having reunions after graduating from college and starting their family's. I never thought that when I started college that God would bring people into my life and they would be as close. Two years ago my sister and I moved in and of course I wasn't planning on staying so I didn't really make the best of my college experience for that first year. About a year later, God placed it in my heart to stay after I had gotten my transfer slip and acceptance letter to another school. So I came back and decided that if I was going to graduate from here I may as well make the best of it.

The second year that I was here my sister ended up becoming a CLM and wasn't going to be my roommate. So that meant I had to find someone else. What better person to room with than my neighbor (from the semester before) Destiny Washington. We were both very unsure about how the semester would turn out, but we decided to at least give it a try. I have to say that it was the best choice that I ever could have made. She was definitely like a big sister to me and was there for me through everything I went through from happy tears to painful tears. From surprisse birthday parties to surprise late night movie nights. It was the best experience ever, and besides that I not only gained a lot of other friends, but sisters in Christ as well. I will forever remember my experiences from this school and will cherish the memories.

Life in the Library

My first semester at the school I never really went to the library for any reason except to print out a last minute paper. It wasn't until I started working in the library that I found myself in there almost everyday. I thought I was going to loose my mind because the library was too quiet for me, but it was definitely not what I thought it was going to be. You get to meet so many people there during work especially the athletes.

This was the final week of school and the only thing left to do was study for finals and make changes to our presentations and projects. There was a specific group however that was in the library and they were working on their presentation and one of the guys in the group didn't iron his shirt and didn't have an iron to do it so the girl in the group brought her iron and did it for him. It was the first time in my life that I had seen a student ironing in the Library. But it definitely showed dedication. This is has been one of the most busiest semesters for me in my whole college experience and I hope it will be the last.

The Beginning of the End

The past couple of weeks have been pretty busy with projects, papers, choir concerts, and finals. I haven't really had a chance to stop and take in the fact that tomorrow I will be leaving school and will have officially finished with my first year at ACC and my third year of college!!! It is an exciting and scary thought. So, I thought I would reflect on my experiences here at ACC.
I never thought that I would have so much fun in college...or learn that much for that matter. I feel like I have been here forever in a good way; I don't feel like the new kid in school. I have made amazing friends and done things I didn't think I would have the opportunity to do. I have grown spiritually and have been challenged in my thinking. I have had tons of fun....whoever said Christians were boring obviously has never hung out with any. I have learned to be a performer, I learned to play guitar, I visited a Jewish church and performed Broadway in choir. So, as I start to pack up my things, I feel a little tinge of sadness. However, there is a hovering feeling of excitement for what is to come in the next year. And though I am most definitely ready for summer break, I can't wait to come back!

Broadway Blast

One of my favorite things about school is being able to see people do what they do best. This is especially true for the Music Department (which is soon to be the Fine Arts Department) Every end of the semester they put together a concert, and this semester's theme was broadway. Now, I'm not a big fan of musicals (at least in movie-format) but goodness do I love to watch a good performance. And the Choir team did a phenomenal job!

The most amazing part for me is that I was actually asked to take part in this year's performance! Got to play guitar for a rendition of "Good Riddance" by Green Day from theirAmerican Idiot presentation on Broadway.

There were so many great performances. The opening was great. A girl at our school, Chloe, sang a beautiful opening jazz number.

Another girl, Ashley A., sang an amazing cover of "I'm here" from The Color Purple, and of course "Ugg a Wugg" from Peter Pan was just phenomenal - they added a drum part that was pretty great.

And Brandy M. did a great job as Belle from Beauty and The Beast.

Honestly, everyone did a fantastic job and I was just so honored to be a part of it! I am even considering joining choir next semester . . . but we'll just have to see about that. ;)

Now I have to focus a little longer and study for Finals. So crazy that the semester is at its end. Definitely going to miss everyone a ton but it's been a great semester and I look forward to next year!

And yeah, this is me right before the performance:

Summer in Israel and Kenya

In 13 days I am going to Israel with the school. I can't believe it! I cannot wait to walk where Jesus walked and see the things He saw. I am so excited about getting to see the culture He was surrounded by and make the stories I have heard a thousand times come to life. Sometimes, I feel like the Gospel is just a story that I have heard so much it does not have an effect on me. This trip is a chance for me to see the story with fresh eyes!

But wait, it gets better! A few days after getting back from Israel I am flying to Kenya. I will be spending the summer at Camp Bluesky, a Christian summer camp for kids, ages 7-17. I will be a counselor for five weeks of camp and then I will be spending three weeks doing mission work throughout the country. The other counselors and I will get to go on a safari. I cannot wait to see the Lion King in real life! We will also raft the Nile River!! Hopefully I will not be eaten by a crocodile!

I do not know what to expect this summer. I know God is going to do incredible things and I cannot wait to witness them.

Professionalism and Oh-My-Goodness-Finals

I'm a student worker and on Tuesday nights from... now to 11:00, I work in the library in the Educational Resource Center. It's super legit, by which I mean I get to sit behind a desk, and answer questions and all kinds of awesomeness. No one has ever told the student workers, "Look, you need to dress up for this," but I've always assumed that a level of professionalism would be appropriate.

What does professionalism look like? I'm glad you asked, blog readers.

A professional would NEVER walk into the library barefoot with her shoes in her backback because they're leather and it's raining.

She'd be able to balance a takeout container AND a drink AND an umbrella WITHOUT spilling her sweet tea all down her arm and her shirt and her skirt.

A true professional would NEVER get caught in the rain and come in to work looking somewhat like a drowned rat.

Basically? I'm not a professional anything. :)

School is racing to a close, finals are looming, majors are changing, and nothing is the way I thought it was. Life would be easier if I were still in high school, when everything looked clear cut and simple, but it would be an illusion. I prefer the struggle--sweet tea and all.

Changes

There are a lot of changes going on here at ACC, soon to be Point University (like this one)... The school is changing locations to West Point Georgia in Fall 2012. There are more changes; this one deals more with me and my personal life. I am changing my major!!! again... I was originally undecided, then humanities, then counseling, and now.... (drum role).... I am switching to Early Childhood Education! Being a teacher was always at the bottom of my list, and of course God shows me a sign that this is the path that he wants me to choose. Everything is fine, the changes are being made. I still have to switch my schedule around and sign up for the correct classes. Because I am almost a junior and am just now switching over to the ECE program, I am a little behind. I will be at Point University for a another year! I am actually really excited about it! Now I have an excuse to stay here. haha

It is never to late to change your major. Do what God is calling you to do, whether it be working in a church, being a school teacher, or picking up trash. Be confident in who you are, but most importantly, remind yourself daily that God has your back! He will provide. You can't go wrong if you are doing what the Lord calls you to do.

Good Luck!!!
