Long time; No post

I figure now's as good a time as any to post, since I know I have not posted here in forever. Basically, the semester's wrapping up WAY too quickly for me to be happy. I have to say that this past year has been the best one so far (out of the past two, anyways). In less than a week I will be moving from the house I have learned to love, and loved to learn the idiosyncricies of (the Redmon House), into the standard-issue student apartments.

This past Friday, however, was our last spring formal in Atlanta before the move to West Point, and it went so much better than I was expecting. With being the SGA treasurer, I got to see the behind the scenes workings, and was really worried about how it would turn out - since a lot of things were being done different (we had a real photo booth instead of a photographer, for instance - see above). But all in all  it went super smoothly, and it was a lovely evening. I even got to take the leftover cakes to the house for the guys - since what better way to get rid of three extra cakes than to give them to a house full of 7 guys!

I was accompanied by my wonderful date (and girlfriend), and we enjoyed a dinner beforehand with about 9 other friends of ours in midtown right off of Peachtree Street, and wandered around some (attempted to go to the top of the Sundial, until we found out it was $6/person) before going back to Piedmont for the nights festivities. Once there, we ran into Jamie-Grace who was making an appearance, and we all got to catch up while riding the golf-carts to the venue. But, that was almost topped once I got to taste the Reese's chocolate fountain provided by the caterers. Mind. Blown.

And once we got it all packed up, my girlfriend and I made our way to Dwarf House, and had late-night chicken biscuits until we could barely stay awake (well, we had one each, but we were exhausted - it was 3:00 by the time we got back to campus, after all). Needless to say, I have spent the last 48 hours playing catch-up on sleep...luckily I don't have any finals tomorrow...haha.


This week will truly be bittersweet, but the future is brighter than ever for not only myself, but for Point University - so I'm excited to see what happens for everyone!

Spring Break: Somebody that I used to know.

This first week back from Spring Break has been rough - getting back into the swing of the day to day routines, the daily meal times and work schedules, as compared to spring break's lazy mornings, and days spent in Downtown Charleston walking around with a cone of gelato. Even through the work involved, there has been a bright side, with there being a bunch of great stuff that has happened this week:

• Got to have a guy night with some of my friends on Tuesday (accordingly, my girlfriend had a "girl night in" at her apartment the same night).
• Have a bunch of awesome things on the horizon in terms of what the future will bring, and I'm excited for what it holds.
• Thursday I along with some friends of mine performed Gotye's "Somebody that I Used to Know" at Open Mic Night - that's me at the end doing percussion on my guitar. Click the link to view the video.
• This weekend is Nunsense - being put on by the Fine Arts Dept! I'm excited to see what these great ladies have put together!

It's a shorter post, but not much has happened so far. However, coming up soon there's the Hunger Games premiere, and then throw into the mix things like getting to see my dad in Atlanta for a business trip the week after next - and the month of March will be epic!

Reasons the month of February is amazing, a list.

With only eight days left in the month of February, I figure its about time to sit down, and think about what makes this month so awesome - for me, anyways; I can't speak for you, since I am not inside of your head as you think about the last month.

Anyways, as you know (or may have forgotten), I like lists, and I think that the best way to try and explain why Point has been so wonderful this past month is through said list. Without further ado,

• My birthday. I'm turning 20 in exactly one week, and it's both scary and exciting. Scary in that I will no longer be able to say that I am a teenager, and that I am just this much closer to having to be in the "real world". But, on the bright side, being 20 means that I am no longer a teenager and am now about to enter the real world. Plus, I just love birthdays.
• Sadie Hawkins dance was enjoyable. This past Friday night the CLMs held their annual Sadie Hawkins dance (where the girls ask the guys...it's always a surprise - you get bonus points that don't mean anything if you know the reference) and the theme was "Hoedown Throwdown". It was a night filled with food, and fire, and fun. Afterwards,  a group of us went to Dwarf House (where else?!) for a late night meal (it was "Biscuit Time" after all [after 11 PM they serve Chick-fil-a biscuits]), and I along with two of the "Redmen" (name that my girlfriend calls those of us in the Redmon House) and our friend Seth stayed up until 3 AM (latest I've stayed up until by far in the past year) and needless to say, I really enjoyed sleeping in until noon on Saturday.
• I am being published (again) in the Talon, with an article on Ash Wednesday/Lent.
• Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent - a new season on the liturgical calendar!
• I finally got my Microsoft Word to not auto correct "pericope" to "periscope". I figure that Dr. Carey won't want me turning in a paper where it says "The periscope says that Jesus...".
• Valentines Day was wonderful - spent it with my girlfriend with our friends and enjoyed a nice meal together of baked spaghetti, garlic bread, and ice cream.
• I have grown out a beard. Much to the pleasure of my friends who have been asking me to for months.
• Spring break is only a week away!
• Related to spring break - I get to see the beach in only a little more than a week!

Needless to say, this month is full of awesomeness - and I am stoked to see what else March brings to the table!

Home again, home again

I've been back at Point for two weeks as of today, and it feels like forever - but in a good way! I feel like I never left, and that's one of my favorite things of being here.

This past week was wonderful: Tuesday, I cooked dinner for ten of my close friends at my girlfriends apartment, Wednesday I had dinner at one of the families who live on campus' house, Friday night we (my girlfriend and I) went for frozen yogurt at Yoforia in midtown by Ga. Tech (we managed to not get lost...too badly), and then Saturday I went and had a great time on a double date with one of my housemates and his girlfriend in Ye Ol' Stockbridge.

But anyways, on a more serious front: the semester has kicked off, and things are so far, going according to plan: in love with my courses, and more so that I only have one 10:30 class on M/W/F. SGA has had a successful election, and I'm seeing the big picture of things which are exciting to think about in regards to all the awesome things that our God is doing in our lives as Point University.

I'm realizing more and more, how all of the little things tend to work together and create one massive awesome thing that happens in the end to surprise you. Knowing that God has control, and is doing what's right for you in the long run is a comfort to this college student who works two jobs, volunteers, and goes to class.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled blog entry...

I'm slightly delayed in posting my cliche "what I did on Christmas break" post for a couple of reasons (and since I like really like lists, I'll list them):

• My laptop keyboard got destroyed. And while not physically beaten to smitherines, it would work to a degree - but not without a string of text having random characters thrown in. Thanks to my father, I was able to install a new one - and it works as good as new.
• Stuff's been busy at the shop. We had quite a few animals go home through our "Santa service" (parents buy said animal and everything to go with it, and we hold it for free until Christmas eve). I have also been in the middle of resetting (note: fancy retail term for "rearranging") dog food and toys. 
• Family has been chaotic. With mom running around cooking, dad working open to close, me working whenever I wasn't trying to catch up on sleep, and my grandma coming over.

Now, here we are, on the 8th day of Christmas and I'm finally writing all the typical stuff....but it's not typical. 

Probably, the best part of break by far was the time I spent working - as weird as that sounds. It is good quality time with my dad, and it lets me get my need for spending time with people satisfied. The best part of the best part was no-questions asked, seeing the look on the parents/kids faces when they got their new pet. The look of "Oh my gosh, this is really real?!" on the kids, and the smile on their parents' faces of "we're happy you're happy". 

In no real order, here are some more highlights (again, in list form):

• I got to give all my housemates awesome Christmas gifts (well, this was technically before break, but it was Christmas-ey, so it counts). They all *said* they loved them, so either a) they really did, or b) They're really good actors.
• I got what I wanted for Christmas, even though I was content without either thing. 
• The Redmon Christmas Tree (again, technically pre-Xmas) was a success in broke-college-students-trying-to-be-cool engineering. See what's to the right here...
• Awesome food. Both home cooked and in resteraunts.
• Catching up with my friends from home, since one goes to Clemson, one is in Auburn, one is at SUNY-ESF (State University of New York - Environmental Science and Forestry), another at Grove City College, and finally another who's still in high school.
• Beautiful weather. I mean, seriously. Can you imagine 70ish degrees in December? Sunny? Yeah. Thats what it was here. I am happy without snow.

I still have yet to go take pictures (like I keep meaning to) out this break. I need to. But I might not have the time between packing, packing, cleaning, and loading my car to make the trek to Point.

So, there we have it. A very stream of conciousness, no real plan of attack blog post about Christmas. I feel as though I should have some metaphysical, intellectual conclusion about the deepness of everything....but nah. 

Merry 8th day of Christmas, and Happy New Year!

(Yes, we are still in the season of Christmas, and will be until the Feast of Epiphany...so don't tear down the decorations just yet!)

Saturdays, Sushi, and Seminary.

I seriously like alliterations. Like, if I couldn't come up with an alliteration for a title, I would find a way to make it happen. I'm thinking you will learn which posts are mine by simply the titles. Finals are approaching, and Thanksgiving is around the corner (expect another post from me after/during break, where I will post tons of pictures of food (probably), family (maybe), and Charleston (definatly)...but until then, let me give you a thorough update on how the semester is going...click below for the details!

Quailman, Crepes, and Jumpcastles - all a part of life at Point!

Well, hello there. It's (practically) November, and it's too cold.

While many of my peers are excited since they can  break out their sweaters and jackets, I would much rather it be hot, humid, and sunny (also known as perfect beach weather).

Onto other things though...(it's here that you get all excited and curious and click on the "read more" link right there)

Fall Break: 2011

Fall break. For many it means an extra couple days home, relaxing, and spending more time with family and friends who live an hour or so away from campus...

Not this cat. I'm leaving today at noon to embark on my 5 1/2 hour journey back home to "the 843" (843 is the area code for coastal South Carolina from Hilton Head to Myrtle Beach, inland to Florence).

Yes, you read that correctly. 5 1/2 hours. In other words, I'm letting my iPod charge to full capacity, and plan on driving straight through to Augusta (where I plan on getting gas at the cheapest gas-station in the area...at $2.98/gal), then from there I'm going to be driving all the way to my dad's shop, so I'll get to have dinner with me padre, and some sales reps (the perk of the pet business: company representatives with very padded expense accounts = free dinner at nice restaurants).

But most of all - I want to do one thing, and one thing only. Go to the beach - Folly, if I get to pick, and smell the salt air. Get "beach hair" (what happens when salt air and sand mix with hair). And most of all - remember why I love my home: big white porches, and floppy straw hats. Seersucker jackets, and linen pants.

Why, hello blog. Shall I introduce myself?

Let me just start off with saying this: you may (or may not) like the way I write. I am very stream of conciousness, and what I start with may not be what I end with. I make nerdy jokes, and like using metaphors. So, if you don't like dorky jokes, and kinda awkwardly worded metaphors that make you go "huh?"; just go on to the next post.

...are you still there? Good.

Well, where to start...my name is Will, and I am a sophomore at Point. I am a Biblical Studies major, with a minor on Youth and Family ministry...well....mainly the youth ministry part. I love the Christian calendar (much like fellow student Elizabeth). I also am "heir to the throne" of my father's pet store in Charelston, and rather enjoy the "thrill of the hunt" when it comes to making a sale. I also am a photo-nerd, so if you need any photo services, or want to go on a photo escapade...you know who to find. I am a technology guru, and am usually always connected somehow to the internet. I like the "southern way of life" - and cook like I do (I mean, who else do you know that would make shrimp and grits from scratch, for no real reason other than "I want to cook"?).

Life so far this semester has been rather busy. Not just a little extra work here and there, but rather the type of busy where I have to check my Google calendar if someone asks me to dinner to make sure it doesn't over lap with...

• SGA event
• Class
• My off-campus job
• My on-campus job
• the youth group I volunteer with in Buckhead
• Non-SGA events that are general school events

So yeah, my calendar looks like someone took five or six crayons, stuck them in a blender, then poured the resulting shreds of color onto paper. But, there have been some benefits to being busy these past couple of months, mainly the cool events I've gotten to help with and go on...

• the CD release party for Jamie-Grace where I got to work the merchandise table and show off my mad sales 'skillz' as they say...
• I got to be a part of the improv night that SGA held right after school got into session...
• The guys in the house I'm living in (the Redmon House) have established "family dinners" where we go to dinner, and form community. Like a listening post ... on steroids.
• I helped plan a surprise birthday ambush on my CLM from last year for his 21st birthday - which included running a home-made cake through an on and off rainstorm from one end of campus to the other, since we didn't realize it would be raining.
• Got to help with LINK in June, and then orientation in early August...
• Helped another friends mom plan a surprise party for said friend on campus...

But the best part so far? Making so many close relationships with people - which is part of what Point is about, right?
